Harry James Potter is a fictional character and the titular protagonist in J. K. Rowling's series of eponymous novels. The majority of the books' plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Harry, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard.
- The main story arc concerns Harry's conflict with Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who intends to become immortal, overthrow the wizard governing body known as the Ministry of Magic and subjugate all wizards and Muggles (non-magical people).

- The first stated firmly that “From the very start, Harry Potter's main goal is always to defeat Voldemort.” The second stated equally firmly that “Harry's initial goal is to survive his family (the Dursleys) until he is old enough to leave them.” The third claimed that “Harry's real goal is to gain a loving family.”
- Climax: Although Harry's duel with Voldemort is the most exciting moment in the story, the climactic turn actually happens when Harry uses the Cup as a portkey to escape Voldemort and return to Hogwarts.
